Writing Advice with Dolores Liesner

What is your favorite writing craft book?
Extroverted Writer by Andrea Luedtke

Which do you think is the most underrated writing craft book?
Extroverted Writer. Small, simple but effective guide to marketing and building a platform Why? Perhaps because she is a literary agent and less known as an author.

What is your favorite (or most anticipated) writers conference?
CLASS conferences and Write to Publish – both are influential for writing opportunities, education and experience.

What’s your favorite other source (YouTube, podcast, etc.) for writing tips/info?
Edie Melson’s website https://thewriteconversation.blogspot.com/

Who is your writing mentor/inspiration?
Pamela Farrel because she actively assists and demonstrates she truly cares about others and their success.

What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever received? Why was it bad?
Talk more about yourself and base success on how many books/articles you sell.  Ministry is my goal. I do outreach/marketing but God provides the “success.”

What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever received?
Develop habits to be consistent in writing and editing - daily if possible.

What would you say is the best writing tip for new authors?
Use the audible option to have the computer read your material – you will hear things you skip over reading because you know what you wrote and what you expect.

What is your best self-editing tip or advice?
Read sentence by sentence asking if there are redundant words you can remove without changing meaning (such as that).

Please share your most encouraging tip for frustrated/discouraged writers.
Write all you can one day, let it set to read and edit following day.

Tell us about your newest release/upcoming release.
I have several stories in various Guideposts and anthologies – Renewed Christmas Blessings (Michelle Rayburn), Bloom in Your Winter Season (Deborah Malone), Guidepost Devotionals Strength and Grace and Strengthened by His Touch (April 2024 series release).

Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Part of my testimony was dramatized on Unshackled, Pacific Garden Mission’s radio program.
